No, thanks.
The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said it is not interested in the bounty placed on the head of Filipino bomb expert Basit Usman who Moro rebels killed in Maguindanao last week.
“The MILF is not interested in the reward money. Even if it is given to us, we will not accept it,” said Ghadzali Jaafar, MILF vice chairman for Political Affairs.
Usman carries a $ 1-million reward from the US government, in addition to around P6.3 million (about $140,000) offered by the Philippine government.
“The reward money is not the reason why the MILF did it. We don’t want to be accused that our motivation is money,” said Jaafar.
Usman, who was the second target in the Mamasapano operation, was killed on Sunday in Maguindanao, with initial military reports stating that he was killed by his own men due to the reward on his head.
But on Wednesday, the military retracted its statement and confirmed that Usman was indeed killed by MILF troops while on their way to the Central Committee.
