Jakarta: Eleven people were killed in a fire in Indonesia's Paniai Regency in Central Papua.
Indonesia's ANTARA news agency reported that the fire broke out Monday in the village of Babuda, resulting in the deaths of 11 people, injury of 20 others, and the destruction of 40 homes.
Indonesian authorities are investigating the incident and added that the fire originated in a popular market selling various types of food.
Authorities also indicated that the victims whose homes were completely destroyed are currently being housed in various locations, such as the police station and the health center.
Popular markets and densely populated areas pose a particular challenge due to the density of shops, flammable materials, and the difficulty of firefighters accessing some areas.
