Clampdown on sheesha joints near schools

DOHA: Public health authorities have urged the Ministry of Interior to clamp down on sheesha joints operating near educational institutions as well as on outlets selling electronic cigarettes. A senior Supreme Council of Health (SCH) official, Dr (Sheikha) Alanood bint Mohamed Al Thani, held a meeting with senior Interior Ministry and other Ministry officials and urged that action be taken against sheesha joints located near schools.

Talking of the dangers of the use of tobacco and its derivatives among youngsters she said there is the need to act against such joints as well as crack down on outlets that are selling electronic cigarettes despite their ban in the country. Officials of the Ministry of Business and Trade and the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning as well as FAZA (public security agency) also attended the meeting along with representatives from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Interior Ministry.

The meeting agreed to initiate action against the erring joints and also combat the use of sweka leaves by people, especially youngsters.
