DOHA: An Arabic ‘Caricature Competition’ prizes worth QR100,000 will be held on the sidelines of the upcoming ‘Media and Advertising Exhibition :MEDIA EXPO QATAR 2012’ to be held from November 5 to 7 at Doha International Exhibition Centre.
The event will be organised under the patronage of
H E Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah by Dar Al Sharq, the leading printing and publishing house of Qatar.
The ‘Caricature Competition’ is being held in a bid to promote and strengthen the role of caricature art as an important and alternative means to express views and opinion on day-to-day events and burning issues that take place across the world. For the first time, Dar Al Sharq is making an endeavour to assemble artists/cartoonists from all the Arab countries and providing them an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The winner of the first prize will be awarded a cheque of worth QR50,000, while the second and third prize winners will be given QR30,000 and QR20,000 respectively. In addition, all the three winners will be honoured with Memorial Shields as well. A committee of famous Arab artists will be set up to judge the talents. Their works will be judged on the basis of performance, theme, originality, vision and relevance to the contemporary world. The names of the winners will be announced in the conclusion ceremony of the exhibition.
Competition is open for all Arab cartoonists regardless of their place of residence, nationality or age, the cartoons should be sent by the artists themselves. There is no restriction of theme or date of the innovation. The text inside the pictures should be in Arabic. And maximum five entries from each participant will be accepted. The pictures could be e-mailed on peninfo@pen.com.qa. The artists can send their works in JPEG format only and animations are not acceptable.
Ø The pictures will be A3 size and clear at DP1200
Ø All pictures to be sent as attachment in one e-mail with a letter containing a brief resume of the artist.
Ø The resume should contain name of the artist and his country with contact details
Ø Deadline for receiving the entries is October 24, 2012.
