Doha: H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser was yesterday hosted by Princess Maxima of the Netherlands at the offices of her charitable organisation, the ‘Oranje Fonds’ (the Orange Fund) which is the largest foundation in the sphere of social welfare in the Netherlands. The Fund aims to promote participation in society by working mainly with disadvantaged people in social integration programmes.
During the visit, the Orange Fund Directors presented a selection of their programmes to Sheikha Moza relating to both elderly and youth care in the communities, including mentoring and educational programmes to help socially disenfranchised members of the community to become more active. At the end of the presentation, Sheikha Moza met with a group of young people who have benefited from the Orange Fund programmes and who spoke with her about their lives and how working with the Fund has helped them.
The Oranje Fonds is an endowed foundation with additional substantial income from donations and rights to lottery revenue. Annually, they invest about €32m in almost 7,000 social initiatives throughout the Netherlands. It was founded in 2002 with the marriage of the Prince of Orange and Princess Maxima, who are both patrons of the organisation.
