THE HAGUE: The State of Qatar has welcomed the resolution issued by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons' (OPCW) Executive Council regarding the elimination of Syrian chemical weapons, believing in the principle of the inadmissibility of the use of chemical weapons under any circumstances.
In his address during the second session of the extraordinary meeting of the OPCW's Executive Council No. (33), Charge d'Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of Qatar in The Hague Khalid Fahad Al-Hajri called on the international community to fully cooperate with the organization in responding to the destruction acts.
Horrific massacres and the scorched earth policy pursued by the Syrian regime against its people through the use of chemical weapons.
Qatar stressed in its address that any agreement or decision cannot be a substitute for finding a final solution to achieve the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people to freedom and dignity and the transfer of power according to their will.
The State of Qatar also believes that it is unacceptable for this agreement or resolution to be an obstacle in bringing perpetrators, who have used chemical weapons and committed other brutal massacres to the international criminal justice.
Qatar emphasized that accelerating the effort to put Syria's chemical weapons under international control is a step towards the right direction to achieve the universality of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
In this regard, Qatar reiterated call to the countries that have not acceded to the Convention to join it in order to achieve international peace and security.
At the end of his speech, Al-Hajri stressed Qatar's full support for the efforts of the international inspectors in their mission in Syria and for the Organization and the agreement on the prohibition of chemical weapons. (QNA)
