Doha: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has signed an agreement with the Education Above All (EAA), under which the Qatar Development Fund will donate $40m grant for the Al Fakhoora programme.
The amount will be used to rebuild and equip the affected schools and universities in the Gaza Strip, in addition to providing scholarships for students wishing to pursue higher studies in the disciplines needed by the the Strip.
The amount will also be used to support training programmes for professionals in the education and health sectors. This support will contribute to increase the number of students beneficiaries of scholarships provided by Al Fakoora programme for graduates in the Gaza Strip to more than double.
The agreement was signed after talks with Qatar Development Fund p, during which the Programme representatives gave a presentation about the work of the program and its achievements in the Gaza Strip and estimates of the needs of the reform of educational facilities and clinics which were destroyed or damaged last August.
HE Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Meraikhi, the Director General the Development Fund and Director of the International Development Department at the Foreign Ministry, said that the contribution will support the repair of damage of the 8 universities in the Gaza Strip in addition to more than 110 as well as support the psychological and social treatment programme of people of the Gaza Strip.
Education Above All (EAA) is a global initiative founded in 2012 by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser with a view to providing educational opportunities, with a special commitment to communities facing poverty and crisis.QNA
