Kerala floats company for monorail projects

Kochi: Kerala Mono Rail Corporation, a new company, has been floated to implement two separate monorail projects - one in Thiruvananthapuram and another in Kozhikode, said Chief Minister Oommen Chandy yesterday.
“The detailed project report for the land acquisition has been submitted by the government,” said Chandy while inaugurating the Infrastructure Conference (IC) 2012 here.
Rejecting all speculation about the Kochi Metro, Chandy said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will definitely take up the proposed project and its former chief E. Sreedhaaran will be heading it.
“Infrastructure possibilities should be explored to the maximum for all-round development in the state and today’s conference is the step towards that. Infrastructure development will be done keeping in mind the environment aspects,” he added.
To make things smooth and to achieve speed in the public works department, its four-decade-old manual has been now revised.
“The state government has granted `46.92bn for upgradation and rehabilitation of 1,204km of selected roads in the state,” said PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju.

Ajit Pawar to be Maharashtra deputy chief minister again

Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar will rejoin the Maharashtra cabinet as deputy chief minister today, days after he got a clean chit in the alleged irrigation scam in the state.
Pawar will be sworn-in 9.30am today by Governor K Sankaranarayanan, a top Raj Bhavan official said.
Pawar, nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, had quit in a huff on September 25 after his name cropped up in the alleged scam.
