DOHA: In a unique move, the government has mooted the idea of a massive poultry project and wants the private sector to chip in with investment and proposals on how to launch the venture.
A technical committee at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce responsible for bolstering private sector’s role in the economy has developed the above idea.
The proposed project envisages having massive hatcheries and producing 40,000 tons of chicken meat and 7,500 tons of eggs, aside from producing chickenfeed, annually. The proposal is to have the project occupy some 5.7 square km of area.
An investor-contact program was launched by the committee yesterday as part of which written suggestions will be sought from people about the project, their idea about production capacity and produce, among other things.
And finally people being contacted for opinion would have to cite in writing if they would be investing in the proposed project.
