LIBREVILLE: A delegation of rebels from the Central African Republic arrived yesterday in Gabon capital, where they are due to hold talks with the government aimed at ending a crisis that has seen them seize several key cities.
Some 15 members of the Seleka rebel coalition arrived in a United Nations-chartered plane that flew from the rebel-held city of Bria in the CAR to Chadian capital N’Djamena and then on to Libreville. The delegation is headed by Seleka chief Michel Djotodia, who made no statement on arrival in the Gabonese capital.
Earlier, CAR President Francois Bozize arrived in Brazzaville for talks with his Congolese counterpart, who is poised to mediate in talks between Bangui and a rebel alliance. Bozize “should return in the afternoon” after his meeting with President Denis Sassou Nguesso, a government source said. The Congolese leader is due to oversee peace negotiations set to open today in Gabon’s capital.
