DOHA: The Ministry of Interior has signed MoUs with three leading military institutions in the UK to provide practical training to students of the Police College being established in Qatar and implement its curriculum.
The MoUs were signed with Manchester Metropolitan University, Greater Manchester Police and another reputable police college.
General Dr Abdullah Yousuf Al Mal, legal consultant at the ministry, signed the MOUs on behalf of the college, at a ceremony attended by senior officials and representatives of the three institutions.
The agreements aim at implementing the curriculum of police science and teach English language to students of the college, the Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
Al Mal said the agreements marked the culmination of year-long negotiations between the ministry and the institutions. “We are working on finalising requirements for establishing the college from the academic and scientific aspects,” Al Mal was quoted as saying.
During their four-year course, students will spend the summer months in the UK for training at these institutions. Training will start after the second year.
Students will join the British college patrol team in Manchester city and participate in football matches between Manchester United and other Manchester city clubs.
First year, the Manchester University will train students in English language and help develop their skills in line with the requirements of the college.
The curriculum will integrate practical and theoretical aspects. Besides Qataris, the college will have students from other Arab and GCC states.
