Doha: The Joint Rainfall Emergency Committee at the Ministry of Municipality deployed 1,470 employees and 988 pumps and other equipment to clear waterlogging caused by the rainfall which hit the country.

The committee consisting of the specialised agencies in the municipalities, the Department of General Cleanliness at the Ministry of Municipality, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) and the security agencies at the Ministry of Interior, made intensive efforts during the rain and responded to citizens’ requests related to removing waterlogging caused by rainfall.

The number of employees in the participating teams reached 1,470. The number of participating equipment, machinery and pumps reached 988.

As many as 2,931 rainwater related request were received by the unified call centre at the Ministry of Municipality and the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) which were transferred to the concerned authorities for implementation.

A total of 2,099 requests were responded immediately and with high quality, and the remaining requests will be completed as soon as possible. The work is still underway with all the agencies concerned with the municipalities and the Public Works Authority getting involved. 

The highest rainfall was recorded at 37.1mm, while the lowest point was 15.0mm. The mechanism for receiving communications is carried out in coordination with the main control room of the unified call centre through the number 184, in addition to the number 188 of the Public Works Authority.

The working teams of General Cleanliness Department at the Ministry of Municipality have intensified cleaning, sweeping, washing and removing waste from tunnels and streets after the rainfall, as dust and stones in the streets are swept away, and trees that have fallen to the ground due to the winds accompanying the rain have been removed.

The number of tree waste that was removed due to the wind, from Thursday until yesterday evening, was about 64 tonnes which were carried in six loads.

The number of officials, observers and workers participating in manual sweeping work reached about 2,780 workers and drivers.
