DOHA: Souq Waqif witnessed more than 300,000 visitors during its two-week Spring Festival which ended on Thursday.
A total of 55,000 gifts were distributed to children by Information and Tourism Centre at the souq during the festival, according to Mohammad Al Salem, Head of Old Market Section of the souq.
More than 40 shows were staged at various locations, providing more entertainment.
In its third year, the festival offered a medley of musical shows, parades, street performances, acrobatics, games and art activities.
Among the shows that attracted the most people were the Dinosaur Park, traditional bands and the Spring Music Festival organised by the souq-based Sawt Al Rayyan radio station.
The music festival presented Arab singers such as Nancy Ajram, Ali Abdulsattar, Jannat and Fahad Al Kubaisi among others. They featured at nightly shows at a 3,500-seat purpose-built theatre.
The festival also attracted visitors from GCC countries, mostly from Saudi Arabia.
It is sponsored by Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels and organised by Souq Waqif administration and Sawt Al Rayyan Radio.
Souq administration is planning a children’s festival from April 11 to 19.
