London:  Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage H E Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari visited yesterday the Natural History Museum in London. The Minister toured various sections of the mseum and was briefed on the contents of the museum, which is considered to be one of the largest natural history museums in the world.

The museum includes different varieties and types of organisms in addition to a group of dinosaur skeletons.

It also contains more than 70 million items which are displayed through five groups — botany, entomology, mineralogy, ancient biology and zoology.

The Minister also toured the new hall, which was inaugurated three months ago, that includes a number of educational materials, cultural and artistic works as well as plants species and animal models.

Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Hajri, Director of Youth and Activities Management, said that the programme is the culmination of the excellent relations between Qatar and the United Kingdom over the past decades, and confirms the mutual desire to strengthen  cooperation between the two friendly countries in various fields.

The Museum of London has revamped its communications as it focuses on becoming a ‘consumer brand’ to sharply drive up visitor numbers. The organisation has reshuffled its team, brought in two agency figures, and set a target of increasing media coverage. Director of Communications Antony Robbins said the new agenda was about “trying to think more like a consumer brand” and called for others in the arts sector to do likewise. “We have to compete with other consumer brands for the attention of our visitors, and this is a change we’re going to have to see more widely,” he said.
