Hundreds flee homes as troops, rebels clash in Butuan city

Butuan: Hundreds were displaced in a clash between soldiers and communist rebels in Butuan City, officials said yesterday.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) also said 10 soldiers went missing due to the encounter but the Army denied this.

In a report, NDRRMC said a total of 750 persons or 150 families fled their homes due to the clash last Thursday in barangay Anticala in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.

Cotabato villages under poll watch

MANILA: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has placed seven villages in Tulunan, North Cotabato, under “tight watch” due to the strong presence of rebel groups.

Tulunan town police chief Ronnie Cordero said that the seven villages include Nabundasan, Tuburan, Banayal, Bacung, Bituan, Batang and Baynosa.

Cordero said that barangays Banayal, Batang, Bacung, Tuburan, and Nabundasan are “infested” by the New People’s Army while the remaining two are “influenced” by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

He said that additional policemen will be deployed to the seven villages during the May elections.

Teenage girls rescued from Korean in Angeles

Pampanga: Police arrested a Korean who allegedly forced two teenage girls into using drugs and having sex with him in Angeles City.

Kim Caben was caught inside a room at Avante Hotel along Volga Street, Riverside Subdivision, Barangay Anunas, along with two 16-year-olds.

Found inside Caben’s room were a transparent plastic sachet of shabu weighing about 0.06 grams; a partially opened plastic sachet of shabu weighing about  0.02 grams; two syringes; and a used syringe.
