In order to preserve Qatari heritage and encourage the hobby of collecting antiques, an auction is held every Friday in Souq Waqif.
The auction, conducted by the Souq Waqif administration, is a simple and traditional affair. There is just one mediator between the seller and the buyer. Old utensils, Arab manuscripts, coins, cameras, radios and other items are offered for sale.
The auctions attract antique lovers of various nationalities, including tourists from different parts of the world. The success of the auctions shows that the habit of collecting antiques is spreading in Qatar.
