DOHA: The Curriculum Evaluation Section at the Institute of Education at the Supreme Education Council (SEC) has issued a circular to Independent schools, asking them to use e-textbooks available in the e-bag package.
The circular also asks the schools to stop using regular textbooks and said students should bring exercise books for each subject if needed for activities or home work, an Arabic daily reported yesterday.
However, some Independent schools have said the circular has created confusion as they were earlier asked to use e-textbooks with certain limitations.
The new circular says the curriculum for the second semester is available in PDF files for grade four to nine for subjects, including Arabic language, social science, English language, science, maths and Islamic studies.
The curriculum for grade 10 is available for Arabic language, social science, Islamic studies and maths. For grade 11 and 12, e-books are available for subjects, including Arabic language, social science, maths and Islamic studies in PDF files.
The Arabic daily quoted sources at Independent school as saying the new circular created confusion with regard to a circular sent to schools earlier this school year, asking them to ask students to bring their regular textbooks and use e-books as additional material, especially for secondary school students.
The same circular said e-instruments should be used for not less than three lessons per week, and not more than 20 percent of lessons for primary and intermediate levels. It said teachers and students should communicate through emails to discuss issues and solve problems.
Schools, which has e-bag systems, have implemented instructions and teachers are familiar with the practice, according to sources. The e-bag project, an extension of the e-learning project launched last year, aims at providing every student and teacher at Independent schools with a computer, educational aids and applications that conform to national curriculum standards.
