Doha: The Traffic Department plans to increase the number of speed radars across the country to monitor accidents.
Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director, told a press conference yesterday that the department plans to set up speed radars every two to four kilometres on major roads.
The department has installed 190 new radars to monitor vehicles overtaking from the right lane. He said the department will soon release data relating to fatalities due to accidents last year. He said 90 percent of accidents last year were mainly due to high speed and urged motorists to respect traffic rules and comply with speed limits.
He said the department is also conducting surprise checks to prevent heavy trucks from parking in residential areas in Doha. He said special numbers will be auctioned next month. The peninsula & QNA
