Doha: Ammar Yasser Salem of Egypt came up with a clinical display to clinch the U15 title at the Qatar Junior Open squash championship at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex here yesterday.
Salem took 22 minutes to register a 11-7, 11-9, 11-3 win over Matthew Wong Yu Heng of Singapore.
In the semi-finals, Salem defeated Qatar’s Waleed Zaman 11-1, 11-6, 11-8 to book a place in the final, whileYu Heng got the better of Naveed Rehman of Pakistan 11-8, 12-10,11-7.
On Sunday, Israr Ahmad of Pakistan won the U19 title defeating Sajad Zareian Jahromi of Iran in an exciting five-game thriller which lasted for one hour.
Asad Ullah Khan of Pakistan defeated Mohamed Tarek Ouda of Qatar 11-7, 11-8, 11-2 to win the U13 title while in the U17, Alireza Shameli of Iran defeated Chan Chi Ho of Hong Kong 11-9, 9-11, 11-2, 11-9 to finish on top. In the U13, Muhammad Huzaifa Ibrahim of Pakistan came first followed by Arnav Tevatia of India. From today, Qatar Squash Federation (QSF) will host the Doha Junior Open, the second back-to back tournament.
The event is held in five age groups of U11, 13, 15, 17 and 19 at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.The Peninsula
