Doha, Qatar: Restaurants and food service sector across Qatar are continuing to operate smoothly as the country navigates the impact of extraordinary circumstances following Iran’s recent attacks, with many in the sector expressing confidence in the nation’s preparedness and safety measures.

While the developments have heightened public awareness, daily commercial activity across the hospitality sector has largely remained steady, supported by clear guidance from authorities and the country’s strong emergency and security systems.

The Peninsula spoke to a cross-section of restaurant operators, food business owners and industry voices, many of whom said they are continuing operations while prioritising the safety of staff and customers.

“Despite the situation, all our outlets remain open for dining as usual during the holy month of Ramadan, from Iftar to Suhoor,” said COO of Oryx Group for Food Services, Vyanktesh Jaiswal. “For customer convenience, we have a delivery team of 70 riders and are available on all major food delivery platforms.”

Oryx Group operates 12 Nando’s outlets, along with one Ocean Basket and one Oodles Wok restaurant in Qatar.

Jaiswal noted that while customers were initially hesitant following the developments, business gradually stabilised.

“Initially, customers were a little hesitant, but by Friday we began to see a steady flow of diners returning to our restaurants,” he said adding that two of the branches are open until 4am.

He added that the safety of employees, particularly delivery riders remains a top priority.

“We are deeply concerned about the safety and wellbeing of our staff, including ensuring safe transportation to and from work,” Jaiswal said.

“Our leadership team has visited each branch and spoken directly with employees, instilling confidence in them. We have also instructed everyone to closely monitor and adhere to the guidance issued by the authorities.”

He added that riders have also been given specific instructions during security alerts.

“We have instructed all riders to immediately move to safe locations whenever security alerts are issued.”

Meanwhile, other businesses in the sector echoed similar sentiments, emphasising resilience and a commitment to serving the community during the holy month.

Founder and Managing Director of Symphonys Artisanal Bakery, Waruna Gunasekara said the bakery continues to operate while focusing on customer comfort and community support.

“Despite the current regional distress, Symphonys Artisanal Bakery remains resilient and committed to serving our community during Ramadan,” he said. “We believe it is important to continue operating and bring a sense of comfort and normalcy to our guests during these difficult times.”

Throughout Ramadan, Symphonys opens daily from 8am for takeaway and deliveries through various delivery platforms. After evening prayers, the bakery welcomes guests for Iftar and continues serving until midnight.

Gunasekara also expressed appreciation to staff and delivery partners for their dedication during the current circumstances.

“We would also like to sincerely thank our dedicated Symphonys team for their continued commitment, the delivery drivers who are fearlessly supporting us, and our valued guests for continuing to choose Symphonys during this challenging time,” he said.

“To everyone in our community — stay safe.”

Industry observers say businesses across the hospitality sector have also adapted quickly to ensure continuity of service.

Content creator and entrepreneur Mohannad Ibrahim Bitar said the sector’s ability to adjust operations has helped maintain customer confidence during the current situation.

“Hotels and restaurants are adapting very quickly and very efficiently,” he said. “Many have adjusted their menus and logistics to deliver Iftar and Suhoor to people’s homes while still offering a five-star experience. Some hotels have even rearranged their parking areas with tables and seating so they can be used as safe gathering spaces if needed during an emergency.”

He added that the country’s strong infrastructure and governance have helped maintain stability.

“In situations like this, there is no better place to be than Qatar,” Bitar said. “The government has always prioritised the safety and security of citizens and residents.”

Bitar also praised delivery drivers and frontline service workers who continue operating during the period.

“These drivers are really heroes without a cape,” he said. “They are making sure people receive their orders while people stay safe at home.”

Those working on the delivery front say they remain vigilant and continue to follow all official security alerts while ensuring orders reach customers safely.

“We continue to deliver orders as usual while carefully following all security alerts and instructions issued by the authorities,” said a delivery driver working with a leading food delivery platform.

Another delivery rider said, “We stay alert and follow the official security instructions whenever alerts are issued. We are happy to keep serving customers and helping people receive their food while they stay at home.”
