Doha: Silatech yesterday announced the appointment of H E Sheikha Al Anoud bint Hamad Al Thani as its representative in Qatar.
Sheikha Al Anoud will support and supervise Silatech programmes and operations to enhance support for the young people in the country in a better and bigger way.
Silatech is a dynamic social initiative based in Qatar and works to create jobs and expand economic opportunities for young people in the Arab world.
It has programmes in 15 Arab countries and has financed and supported over 86,000 youth-run businesses since 2008.
It promotes large-scale job creation, entrepreneurship, access to capital and markets, and participation and engagement of young people in the economic and social development.
Founded in 2008 by H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Silatech finds innovative solutions to challenging problems, working with NGOs, governments and the private sector to foster sustainable, positive change for Arab youth.
Between 2008 and January 2012, Silatech has helped 25,000 young Arabs get jobs.
Silatech is supported by the UN, International Labour Organisation and the World Bank.
In Qatar, Silatech helped launch and continues to support Bedaya Center for Entrepreneurship and Career Development, which conducts training programmes for young people.
It also helped create Roudha Center which has helped over 6,000 young women in Qatar start their business.
Silatech has also launched Qatar Ta3mal, a website which offers career guidance and job matching services to over 500 online courses.
Its Tamheed career guidance programme is available to over 80 percent of students enrolled in Qatar’s universities and colleges.
“Silatech is based in Qatar. It is part of the community here, and it plays an important role in helping our youth contribute to Qatar’s growth and economic transformation. I am proud to join Silatech, and I look forward to many productive activities and programs,” said Sheikha Al Anoud.
She comes to Silatech after serving since 2012 as an adviser at Future Foreign Policy, a university think tank focusing on international affairs.
She has also worked for Amnesty International, volunteered with several nonprofit institutions, and authored reports on education and development focusing on the Middle East and North Africa region.
She has received recognition as a Young Arab Achiever (2011), is a member of World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community, and Tomouh, a platform that enables leaders in the GCC to collaborate and realise their full potential.
She holds an MSc in Economics for Development from University of Oxford and a BSc (Hons) in Government and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
