The two House committees investigating the tragic death of 44 police commandos in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, last January 25 yesterday rejected the move of congressmen belonging to the Makabayan bloc to send questionnaires to Malacañang and have them answered by President Aquino.

It was the second time that President Aquino was spared from answering questions regarding the Mamasapano carnage that also left at least 18 Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) fighters dead.

In separate voting, members of the House Committees on Public Order and Safety, and of Peace, Reconciliation and Unity thumbed down the proposal made by Bayan Muna partylist Rep. Neri Colmenares, believing that it will “set a dangerous precedent.”

The House Committee on Public Order and Safety, chaired by Negros Occidental Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer, voted 14-3, to turn down the Colmenares’ motion. Only Gabriela party-list Reps. Emmi de Jesus and Luz Ilagan, and the Colmenares, himself, voted in favor.

The House Committee on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, chaired by Basilan Rep. Jim Hataman, vote 17-2, to also reject Colmenares’ motion.
