DOHA: Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) has rewarded a cleaner, Andnet Zelekew, for her great honesty and integrity she displayed by returning two diamond rings worth QR470,000 (about $129,000) left behind in one of the washrooms at the QNCC, said a statement yesterday.
The incident occurred during the ‘Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition’, an event held at the convention centre on February 24, 2015. The owner of the rings was delighted with the return of her two rings. Zelekew has received the gratitude of the owner of the rings, and the QNCC management has also honoured her with substantial cash reward.
However, QNCC did not disclose the amount of the cash reward.
“I applaud and thank Ms Zelekew for her of honesty and rectitude. QNCC believes in fostering a working environment that is loyal, secure and trusting, for this reason we believe that our employees always display exceptional integrity. By returning the diamond rings to their grateful owner, our valued employee has displayed the traits which we, as an organisation, hold in the highest regard,” said Ken Jamieson, General Manager, QNCC.
“Zelekew has displayed the characteristics which we value most in all of our members of staff,” added Pandiaraj Sethurathinam, Executive Housekeeper, QNCC. “Without an ounce of hesitation she alerted security who were able to find the owner of the jewellery. I believe that had any other QNCC staff member found this ring, they would have taken exactly the same actions.”
