Qatari riders Saeed Al Sulaiti and Nasser Al Malki emerged as victorious at the eventful Qatar Superstock 600 Round 4 at the Losail International Circuit.
Al Sulaiti was the winner in the first race which saw a stiff competition between him and compatriot Mashel Al Naimi.
Al Naimi, who got the pole position on Friday, led the race in the first two laps before Al Sulaiti managed to surpass his rival. Al Naimi regained the lead in the middle of the race with a brilliant move.
However, he was unfortunate to retain the lead after a problem with his brake pads as Al Sulaiti who was keeping a close pursuit crossed him to bag victory. Al Naimi had to be content with the second position.
Al Malki secured third position while Abdulla Al Qubaisi and Fahad Al Sowaidi finished in fourth and fifth positions respectively.
Al Maliki was the winner of the second race which saw a dramatic ending with Al Sulaiti and Al Naimi crashing out in the final lap.
Like the first race, Al Naimi, took the lead for the first two laps while Al Sulaiti overtook him and managed to stay in front only until the last lap before the crash took place.
As Al Naimi was leading in the final lap, Al Sulaiti entered a bit fast but in the turn twelve of the track breaking too late and losing the front, resulting in the crash. During the crash, Al Sulaiti’s bike touched Al Naimi ending his chances of winning the race.
While Al Sulaiti managed to rejoin the race finishing in sixth position, Al Naimi’s bike was so damage that he couldn’t continue.
Al Malki, who was third before the crash grabbed the victory. Al Qubaisi finished second in the podium and Ali Al Shammari third.
The 17-year’s old Al Qubaisi was very happy with his podium.
“I am very happy with my first podium of this season as I didn’t expect to have such a good result as I had gear problems in the last five laps. I managed to step into the podium due to the crash of Saeed and Mishal, but this is racing. Many thanks to QMMF, LCSC and Saeed for their continuous support,” he said after the second race.
Al Shammari was also delighted to be back on the podium.
“I am very happy to be back on the podium. My start of the race was good but after some laps, I had engine problem and I never thought to get this good results. Bad luck for Mishal and Saeed and hope that in the next round I can improve my rhythm and be faster,” he said.
Sultan Zaher Al Morraikhi, QMMF Executive Director presented the trophies to winner. The next round of the event will take place on May 5 and 6.
