The brand-new Mazda CX-9 has added one more feather in its cap by winning the Australia’s Most Prestigious Motoring Award, ‘2017 Wheels Car of the Year’. Japan, the SUV and Mazda triumphed against a stellar COTY ’17 cast, said a press statement yesterday.
This victory for the Mazda CX-9 makes it eighth Car of the Year win for Mazda in total, the second most successful maker in COTY’s 54-year history, behind Holden (10 victories) and ahead of Ford and Honda (six apiece). It beat the brilliant Audi A4 and exceptional Mercedes-Benz E-Class in the final round. The recognition follows the Mazda MX-5 which took out its third Wheels Car of the Year when it won last year. As the first Japanese manufacturer to win consecutive Wheels Car of the Year trophies, Mazda is the fourth manufacturer to win back-to-back awards, and only the second to achieve this rare feat since the late 1960s. The 2017 Car of the Year was announced at a gala event in Melbourne recently.
The CX-9 is such a convincing blend of eye-catching design, genuine practicality and performance, all with a sprinkling of driver appeal,” Wheels acting editor Alex Inwood said.
