Russian prisoner in daring escape

MOSCOW: A Russian prisoner charged with double murder yesterday escaped from one of Moscow’s most formidable jails by breaking a hole in his cell ceiling, climbing through a ventilation shaft and jumping to freedom, the prison service said.
In a rare break-out, reportedly only the fourth in two decades from Moscow’s Matrosskaya Tishina prison, Oleg Topalov “escaped by breaking into the ventilation shaft of his cell, which is in the ceiling,” prison service spokesman Sergei Tsygankov told Channel One television.
 
Zimbabwe charges scribes over article
HARARE: The editor and chief reporter of leading weekly the Zimbabwe Independent were released from police custody yesterday  after being charged over a politically sensitive article, their lawyer said.
Lawyer Belinda Chinowawa said editor Dumisani Muleya and chief reporter Owen Gagare were charged with “publishing or communicating false statements prejudicial to the State” in an article in the paper nearly two weeks ago.
