Doha: Kaitol Komoriya and Aleksandar Lazarevic bagged the top honours in the ‘Swim for a Cause’ an open water swimming challenge for a cause held at Sharq Village & Spa on Friday.
Komoriya won the 1000m event while Lazarevic topped in the 500m category.
Komoriya completed the two laps with the fastest time much to the delight of the passionate swimming enthusiasts, who came in large to cheers the participants. The race was organised by Sharq Village & Spa in collaboration with Six Senses Spa, H2O and Qatar Charity.
Following Komoriya in the 1000m event were Emiro Goossen and Enis Kefi, who finished in second and third places.
In the 500m section, Lazarevic topped followed by Ivan Savchuk and Andrea Al Hourani in second and third positions.
The purpose of ‘Swim for a Cause’ is to provide drinking water to people who do not have access to clean water in the developing countries. The event was supported by H2o Swim Club and Red Bull. The race received an overwhelming response from with people of different ages and from various walks of life taking part in the race.
“The response to the event was very encouraging. The event was well received by the community. Parents and swim trainers came along and took part in the race while others came to support the children taking part in the event. We had swimmers of different ages taking part and the youngest swimmer was a 7-year old,” said Asela Jayaweera, Recreation Manager at Sharq Village & Spa.
