Brussels: The European Union has said that the situation regarding the evacuation of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem and other areas of East Jerusalem raises serious concern, adding that these actions are illegal, under international humanitarian law, and lead to fueling tensions on the ground.
The Lead Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Commission, Peter Stano said that over the past days, tensions and violence in the West Bank, especially in East Jerusalem, have escalated dangerously, and last night, there were serious clashes on the Temple Mount, lifted many injuries in the Palestinian side.
He stressed that violence is unacceptable and the perpetrators must be held accountable "from all sides," noting that the European Union calls on the Israeli authorities to act urgently to calm the current tensions in Jerusalem, and the need to avoid acts of incitement around the Temple Mount.
United Nations announced that the decision to evacuate the Palestinians from Jerusalem is an Israeli violation of international law, at a time when the occupation authorities continue to assault and arrest Palestinian protesters. The United Nations said that East Jerusalem is still part of the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that all Israeli legislative and administrative measures are null and void in accordance with international law.
About 163 Palestinians were wounded in clashes that erupted last night between demonstrators and the Israeli occupation forces, after the occupation soldiers stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque and targeted the people in Bab Al-Amoud Square and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in occupied Jerusalem.
