Members of the Qatari delegation parade yesterday in Nice, southeastern France, during the opening ceremony of the VIIth Francophone Games. The sports and cultural event lasts until September 15.
Nice: The Francophone Games opened in its VIIth version in the French city of Nice yesterday with Qatar participating for the first time after its accession into the International Organisation of la Francophonie in October 2012.
Qatar will participate in the tournament at four disciplines namely athletics, table tennis, wrestling and judo. Twenty-four players, both male and female, will represent Qatar at the games.
Zamel Sayyaf Al Shahrani, the president of Qatari and Arab Associations for Wrestling will lead Qatar’s delegation to the Games. The delegation also comprises Mohammed Ahmed Al Sulaiti, the head of Qatar Taekwondo and Judo Federation.
The Francophone Games competitions include seven sports — athletics, wrestling, basketball, table tennis, football, judo and athletics on wheelchairs for people with special needs, as well as an exhibition sport (cycling on the road). QNA
