Milipol Qatar security exhibition begins today

DOHA: Milipol Qatar 2012, the ninth edition of the international exhibition on state security will begin today under the auspices of the Heir Apparent H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani at Doha Exhibition Centre. 

The three-day exhibition has attracted 265 companies from 38 countries including Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, New Zealand, Norway, Pakistan, and South Korea. 

The President of Milipol Qatar Committee, Brigadier Nasser bin Fahad Al Thani said that preparations for Milipol Qatar 2012 has begun after achieving the great success from Milipol 2010 representing in record numbers in terms of the number of visitors and VIPs who attended the exhibition.

He further said that many security equipment, manufactured by major companies in the world will be displayed for the first time in Milipol Qatar 2012.

There are four new pavilions in this session with many new companies. They are Brazilian, Pakistani, Jordan and UAE pavilions. These are in addition to four main pavilions such as American (America, Canada), German (Germany, Switzerland and Austria), Check and French. The largest are the UAE pavilion,  Tawazun Holding and the French pavilion. 

Milipol Qatar has become one of the major security exhibitions since its inception in 1996 at the  international level and it gives the opportunity to know latest in security related technology and as well it meets security needs of Qatar, GCC and Arab countries and other regional countries. This has prompted several global companies to participate in this exhibition.

The ninth edition of Milipol Qatar has special significance given the unprecedented surge Qatar is witnessing in all fields.

A website has been activated on  the Ministry of Interior web portal. The website provides information on activities of Milipol Qatar 2012, exhibited products, visitors’ information and Milipol news. 

The United Kingdom (UK) has again made a strong commitment to MILIPOL 2012. Over 10 companies are attending; some exhibiting for the first time, others returning following a successful exhibition in 2010. Some of these companies have already been successful in supplying equipment to countries all over the world including recent major sporting events. Senior representatives from the United Kingdom Trade and Investment’s Security Directorate will on hand to advise on a range equipments and capabilities in the UK’s security sector.

Richard Freeman, Senior Police Adviser in UKTI’s Security Directorate leads the UK delegation. This commitment to the exhibition by UK companies and UKTI’s Security Directorate reflects the importance of the security sector as significant opportunities exist both in Europe, the US and Asia as countries wish to protect their borders and also compete for global sporting events.

In 2011 UK security exports achieved over £2.5bn for the first time and the UK is the fifth most successful security exporter.  

UK companies exhibiting include Airwave Solutions Ltd, Digital Barriers, Heckler & Koch GB, Plowman Craven, L-3 ASA, CNL Software, XSMG. Companies being exhibited  the UK ‘s Export Support Team include  Inmarsat, Wood & Douglas, Survitec and VIT Security Group. The UK’s security industry continues to be at the forefront of technological innovation and its international success demonstrates its ability to develop and supply highly capable equipment at competitive prices.
