DOHA: Some 29 Indian fishermen from the neighbouring UAE who strayed into Qatari waters on September 30 and were arrested, will likely be produced in a special court on Thursday.

The fishermen are from Kanyakumari in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu and detained at the Capital Police station.

Officials from the Indian embassy met the fishermen at the police station and the mission is actively following up their case, it was learnt.

The fishermen strayed into Qatari waters by mistake, sources said, adding that they will be produced in the special court that decides cases quickly.

The fishermen who are all hale and hearty are employed in Ajman, it was learnt.

The special court normally fines such fishermen and then releases them.
