DOHA: Some of the exclusive staff parking areas at the Hamad General Hospital and Women’s Hospital will now be open to patients and visitors, with the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) introducing new dedicated parking spaces. The decision comes in response to public feedback, HMC said yesterday.
Complaints are galore about severe parking shortage at the two hospitals, which was aggravated by the ongoing renovation works.
A total of 645 parking slots will be available from today for patients and visitors at both hospitals, HMC said yesterday.
They will be controlled by electric barriers operated and supervised by HMC security staff.
Parking facilities are set up at the existing parking areas.
Parking spaces reserved for HMC staff have been shifted to another area as part of the project, a source at the Public Relations Department of the HMC told The Peninsula last evening.
Beginning today, 495 car parking spaces will be available for patients and visitors at Hamad General Hospital. At Women’s Hospital, there will be 150 spaces for patients and visitors.
The parking areas will complement the 82 existing valet parking spaces outside the Outpatients Department.
“These new spaces will enable patients and visitors to access facilities they need quickly and will contribute to enhanced patient experience,” Hamad Al Khalifa, Chief of Facilities and Workforce Development at HMC, said in a statement.
