Doha: Qatar University signed a memorandum of understanding with Addleshaw Goddard, an international law firm to establish legal internships and become part of the university’s growing legal education programme.

The Dean of QU’s College of Law, Dr Hassan Okour, and Addleshaw Goddard’s Senior Partner Monica Burch signed the agreement yesterday in the presence of many high-profile personalities.

The event also marked the inauguration of Addleshaw Goddard’s Doha office.

Okour said College of Law was consistently establishing relationships with legal institutions, whether private and public. He added that the college was always looking for opportunities to collaborate with pioneering lawyers to enrich the teaching experience and give students the chance to learn more about law.

Burch said Goddard gave a high priority to its long-term relationships, whether with clients or communities where the firm is practising. She said the firm was committed to the vision of the Emir as set in the Qatar National Vision 2030, by supporting the human development pillar. She expressed her delight with the opening of the firm’s Doha office.

The agreement provides QU students the opportunity to intern at Goddard’s offices for four months. The firm offers expertise in the fields of construction, projects, corporate, finance, arbitration, renewable energy, private wealth management and litigation.

Addleshaw Goddard opened its office in Dubai in the GCC in September 2012 and the second in Oman in January 2013. QNA
