DOHA: The Ministry of Interior has asked beach-goers and those riding sea scooters to comply with sea safety rules.
The ministry posted on its Twitter handle yesterday an advisory as the number of people going to beaches and riding sea scooters went up sharply during the Eid Al Adha holidays which ended yesterday.
It said sea scooters should be in good condition with their safety belts properly working and underage people and the elderly should not ride them. The first-timers were advised to drive the scooter cautiously.
Those eligible and physically fit to ride the scooter should not drive it to places where people are diving or swimming. They should not drive scooters in the prohibited areas or in the areas of fishing boats. The riders should not venture into private properties. Those not wearing life jackets could be banned from riding scooters, the ministry warned.
It said children should not be left unattended on beaches and should be under constant vigil of parents. It cautioned the public not to venture into the sea during bad weather, especially on windy days.
The ministry also posted advisory for motorists, asking them to avoid speeding and to maintain safe distance during driving.
“Speed thrills but kills. Don’t spoil your enjoyable moments by speeding and reckless driving,” the ministry said. “Keep safe distance between vehicles. Tailgating and driving too close to vehicles in front will cause accidents,” it added. The ministry also cautioned motorists to slow down in residential areas where children will be out due. “In Eid holidays, children play on roads close to residential neighbourhoods. Slow down your vehicle and be cautious,” it said.
