Sri Lanka Walking Football to take part in IWFFQ league

Doha: Sri Lanka Walking Football Qatar, organised a team selection event recently to participate in the upcoming International Walking Football Federation - Qatar (IWFFQ) league.

Members of Sri Lankan expatriate community aged over 40 years participated in the event. 

Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of Sri Lanka to Qatar, Ratnasingam Kohularangan graced the occasion as the chief guest, while President of International Walking Football Federation Asia and Qatar, Farhan Al Sheikh Al Sayed, was the guest of honour at the event.

Counselor at the Sri Lankan embassy, Rasika Jayasinghe; Principal of Stafford Sri Lanka School in Doha, Chrishanthi Perera, and Sri Lankan community leaders in Qatar, were present at the event.

Al Sayed said that walking football, a new way of football, gives an opportunity to people aged over 40 years to play. He congratulated the Sri Lankan community for their enthusiasm to participate in walking football which would unite the Sri Lankan community and promote physical fitness and well-being.

Al Sayed praised IWFFQ Sri Lankan community representative, president of SLWF Doha, Mubarak Mohamed Jameel, general secretary of SLWF Doha Qatar, Abdul Hafeel M Zubair and their team.

An exhibition match was held for men and for women to promote the game among them.  

Besides, Al Sayed presented a certificate of appreciation to charge d’Affaires for his support and contribution towards walking football. He also presented a certificate of affiliation to the Sri Lankan Walking Football Qatar.
