NAKILAT announced it has assumed full ship management and operations of Q-Max LNG carrier Mekaines from STASCo (Shell Trading and Shipping Company Ltd) with effect from yesterday, as part of the planned and phased transition announced on October 19, 2016.
With a cargo carrying capacity of 266,476 cubic metres, Mekaines is wholly-owned by Nakilat and chartered by Qatargas. The vessel built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries was delivered in March 2009 and has been in service ever since. Mekaines is the second Q-Max vessel that will come under the management of Nakilat Shipping Qatar Ltd (NSQL) this year, bringing the total number of vessels managedby NSQL to 10, comprising of six LNG and four LPG carriers.
Nakilat LNG shipping fleet is the largest in the world, comprising of 63 LNG vessels and. It operates the ship repair and construction facilities at Erhama Bin Jaber Al Jalahma Shipyard in Ras Laffan Industrial City via two strategic joint ventures: N-KOM and NDSQ.
