Qatar Academy’s senior swimming team continues to make winning strides, with an impressive medal haul in the International Schools Activities Conference in Cairo recently. The 20-member contingent made their school proud by bringing home a total of 53 medals – 18 gold, 17 silver and 18 bronze - from the regional competition.
Grade 9 student Sarah Al Ani led the pack with five gold and one bronze medal in her individual races, and contributed another two gold medals in the team relays. Sixth grader Abdulla Abu Ghazala was not far behind with two gold, three silver and a bronze medal in individual events and two gold in the middle school relays. Other top performers included Aesha Hussain, Kira Bowe, Erica Stirling, Simon Chute, Afrah Shibu, Nicola Hope and Max Chute.
“The most exciting swims were the relay events,” coach and Qatar Academy teacher Jemma Dallow said. “The middle school boys and girls and the girls junior varsity teams all won gold in both the medley and freestyle relays. Each and every student swam brilliantly in all their events and the results reflect how outstanding their performances were. The best part was they all swam with determination and worked well as a team”.
