JUBA: South Sudan dropped its case against an American citizen who it had held on kidnap charges but whose wife said was a victim of an extortion attempt by security agents, a US official said yesterday.
Elton Mark McCabe was arrested in October, accused of plotting to kidnap an Indian businessman for a $5m ransom.
“We can confirm that the High Court of Central Equatoria State dismissed the case against Mr. Elton McCabe and Mr Mohammed Oglah,” Oliver Mains, spokesman for the US embassy in the capital Juba, said by email.
