Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday sent a cable of condolences to King Philippe of Belgium on the death of former queen Fabiola. The Deputy Emir H H Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani sent a similar cable to King Philippe. The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani also sent a cable to King Philippe.

Doha: The Foreign Ministry yesterday said it will not continue mediation efforts to rescue Lebanese soldiers kidnapped last August in Arsal. In a statement, it said its mediation efforts were out of humanitarian reasons and Qatar’s keenness to protect the lives of innocence, adding that Lebanon had sought Qatari mediation. The ministry said it will not continue efforts due to the murder of a Lebanese soldier at the hand of its captors, and said Qatar will exert all diplomatic efforts it can to save lives. QNA
