DOHA: Ahead of implementing the proposed law to book hackers and those who abuse the Internet facilities in the country, an expert panel has started holding discussions with the heads of various companies, both in public sector and private sector.
Al Sharq reported yesterday an experts panel has started meeting the giant companies under the oil and gas sector, insurance, financial markets and stock exchange.
Last week, the Cabinet approved a draft law that aims to ensure protection of vital information and communication infrastructure. The proposed law is meant to punish anyone who tries to make access into the information system of any state organizations, institutions, authorities or any affiliated companies or bodies.
According to the draft law, anyone who establishes or runs a website via the Internet or any information technology illegally, or publishes false news with the aim to undermine the country’s safety will be liable for action.
Al Sharq reported that the expert panel has identified major government entities and public / private companies to be covered under the law. They included companies under the oil and gas sector, economic sector, financial markets and several insurance companies.
