Islamabad: Pakistan’s Minister of Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain met with an Iraqi delegation chaired by the Iraqi Air Force Commander Staff Pilot Lt Gen Anwar Hammad Ameen, currently on a visit to Islamabad.
The Pakistani Radio reported that Minister Tanveer stressed his country’s willingness to expand the horizons of cooperation with Iraq in the field of military training and provision of equipment.
For its part, the Iraqi delegation expressed great interest in Pakistan’s air defence systems, noting in this regard to Iraq’s desire to build its air defence system and to get on planes to carry out training projects.
PM residence in need of upkeep
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Office in Islamabad is in need of maintenance as the marble on the building has started to fall.
The building, previously called the Prime Minister Secretariat, is the official residence and principle workplace of the prime minister.
An officer of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), requesting not to be identified, said work on the building started in 1963 and completed in 1970 at a cost of $3.8m (around Rs19m).
Muslims protect Hindu shrine
KARACHI: Sikandar Chandio, 53, was born in the temple he now protects. “This is our fifth generation living on the premises of the temple. I believe it is a sacred place for some people and I don’t want this building to be damaged.”
Despite some recent untoward incidents against the Hindu community, the people of Sindh largely uphold religious harmony.
Chandio’s Muslim family “protects” the only temple in Johi, a town in which no Hindu family resides. A Hindu man handed over the charge of the temple to his grandfather, Jamaluddin.
