Al Kharaitiyat yesterday picked up their fifth win of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) season with a 2-1 victory over Al Sailiyah yesterday.
Playing at Al Khor Stadium, Al Kharaitiyat rallied for their win after conceding a goal in the 17th minute which was scored by Dragos Grigore.
However, Al Kharaitiyat hit back through Mohammed Saad (30) and Mohamed Abdulrahman (49).
The match kicked off with a flurry of fast-paced moves around the midfield but neither side could make any genuine inroads inside each other's the penalty boxes.
Al Sailiyah, however, produced a magic moment to take the lead in the 17th minute. Grigore back-headed off a near-perfect corner kick, leaving the backline of Al Kharaitiyat shocked.
The ball sailed to the far left corner of the Al Kharaitiyat before crashing into the net to the absolute joy of the Al Sailiyah camp.
Eight minutes later, Al Kharaitiyat's Anwar Deya launched a ferocious drive from 25 meters but his shot sailed just above the Al Sailiyah crossbar.
A clumsy clearance by Al Sailiyah goalkeeper Gregory Gomis saw Al Kharaitiyat draw level in the 30th minute.
Following a penalty box melee, goalkeeper Gomis failed to punch the ball away confidently and the ball landed near the feet of Saad who calmly slotted a shot into the net.
In the 34th minute, Al Sailiyah's Wagner Ribeiro produced a bullet from the edge of the Al Sailiyah box but goalkeeper Ahmed Sufian offered a timely block.
The rebound landed at Wagner's feet again and another attempt at the goal saw the ball slip past the goalpost.
Two minutes from the first-half whistle, Al Sailiyah's Romanian midfielder breezed past three Al Kharaitiyat players but his quick-footed shot sailed above the crossbar in what was lucky escape for the boys in white.
Four minutes into the resumption of play, Al Kharaitiyat's Abdulrahman helped his side take lead, heading one in from close range.
Abdulrahman produced a snap-header on a pass from Sanjar Tursunov. Six minutes later, Wagner swept into Al Kharaitiyat box but his shot from close range was punched away by goalkeeper Sufian.
In the 65th minute, Wagner's snap-header from inside the box ricocheted off the goalpost as Al Sailiyah failed to find the equaliser.
In the 76th minute, Al Kharaitiyat's Deya messed up a penalty kick that was easily deflected by goalkeeper Gomis.
Meanwhile, Al Arabi seemingly turned a corner yesterday when they stunned former QSL champions Al Gharafa 2-0.
Jiminez Luis (49) and Yusef Ali (70) powered Al Arabi with spectacular footwork as the boys in red posted their 7th win of the season.
