Doha: Katara’s celebration of the National Sport Day witnessed the participation of a number of sports federations, clubs, institutions and health centres, with a variety of events and activities that attracted different groups and ages.

It also aims to motivate the public to practice various types of sports in order to maintain health and fitness.

It presented to the public a diverse sports programme of group and individual activities in order to spread the culture of practicing sports among members of the community.

Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti said the great demand for participation in the Sport Day confirms the success of the state’s vision in encouraging awareness of the importance of practicing sports for the health of the individual and society.

He added that the Foundation has worked since the issuance of the Emiri decree in 2011 to approving the Sport Day, to support the state’s efforts to spread the culture of sports, whether by hosting and organising various activities, tournaments, local and international sports events during the year, or through what it offers on the Sport Day in cooperation with a large number of Ministries, authorities, health and sports centres in Qatar.

The Katara Cultural Village constitutes a very ideal location for practicing sports for the various members of the community due to the diversity of its facilities and the availability of different services needed.

Prof Dr. Al Sulaiti also thanked all the parties that chose the Village to present their activities for the public, pointing out that this reaffirms the great confidence that Katara enjoys as a destination not only for tourism and culture, but also for sports.

Katara has allocated three areas for various sports and fitness activities, namely the southern side, the beach and Katara Hills. The Basketball Federation established its playgrounds on the southern side of Katara, in addition to the arena for karate, cycling and other games.

The Katara Hills area meanwhile is dedicated to the marathon, walking, aerobics and fitness sessions. And the Katara Beach welcomed its visitors to practice water sports and beach games.
