Doha: After the tragic death of the Moroccan boy, who fell into the well, another boy from Syria is now in the news as he was kidnapped by unknown people on his way to school. The kidnappers asked the family for a huge ransom and released a video showing the small boy was getting badly beaten up.
Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has reported that the family of the abducted kid Fawaz Qatifan has managed to arrange for the ransom amount and is now waiting for a call by the gang to hand them the money.
The deadline for delivering the ransom will expire on Wednesday. However, the kidnappers are yet to contact the family.
The eight-year-old was kidnapped in Daraa province in November. Many hashtags urging to save Fawaz were trending in many Arab countries, especially after the tragic ending of the Moroccan child. The video showing the little boy stripped to underwear and badly beaten while he pleads to his captors “do not beat me, for God’s sake” has touched the nerves of people in the region and many social users were pleading for his quick and peaceful release.
The family with the help of the Qatifan tribe has managed to arrange the 450 million SYL by selling their land and also through crowdfunding.
SOHR reported that military troops and government forces have arrived at Abtaa town in central Daraa countryside and surrounded the region completely over information about the presence of a child in the town.
