ISLAMABAD: In a great rush to place plaques for projects by the federal and provincial governments which have just 10  days left in office, President Asif Ali Zardari is scheduled to erect a commemorative plate for the new Islamabad Airport on March 15, a day before the dissolution of parliament and provincial assemblies.

The plaque will read “in the memory of the first woman prime minister of the Muslim world Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan”, an official said.

He said the president’s office had given the tentative schedule of placing plaque by Zardari on March 14, but it said later that it would shortly confirm the date.

The commemorative plate has been prepared as per instructions issued by the office.

In related developments, the president inaugurated the Premnagar Dry Port developed by the Pakistan Railways near Raiwind Lahore, and Allai Khwar and Jinnah hydropower projects, and the Safe Mother Home and the Old Age Home in Sialkot over the past three days.

A spokesman of the President House said inaugurations of these projects by the president hadd been scheduled earlier.

There was, therefore, no rush or hurry on the part of the president in this regard, he added.

Initially, the Old Age Home has the provision of housing 50 old women and has been built on the public-private partnership basis.

The land was provided by local philanthropists and Rs20 million was spent by the Evacuee Trust Property Board on infrastructure.

It will provide accommodation for old women in 124 union councils of Sialkot district.

The Safe Mother Home is a 50-bed maternity hospital for provision of child and mother care .

It will cater to 92 union councils in Sialkot in the National Assembly constituency of the Minister for National Services and Regulations Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan.
