DOHA: Giving a major boost to its Qatarisation drive, the Supreme Education Council (SEC) has reappointed more than 800 Qatari school teachers and administrative employees who had been away from their jobs for more than five years.
They are part of more than 1,200 Qatari employees who had been laid off temporarily and placed in “Band Al Markazi” (Central Clause). As per government rules, they had been getting their salaries over all these years, without working anywhere.
They have now been re-appointed in teaching and administrative jobs at Independent schools across the country as well as the SEC offices, the Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
“The SEC has re-recruited 805 teachers and administrative staff and placed them in different departments of the SEC and the Independent schools, according to the relevant provisions of the Human Resources Law (No 8) of 2009 and administrative regulations (human resource) for Independent school employees,” the agency said, quoting a SEC source.
The move aims to benefit from the long experience of large number of teachers and other employees (1,208 in total) who had been transferred to the General Secretariat of the State Cabinet, said the source.
They have been trained to upgrade them with skills and knowledge to meet the standards set by the Independent schools, that were established more than a decade ago as part of the country’s education reform initiative.
The source said, another list of 403 former employees had been sent to the Ministry of Administrative Development to take the necessary action, because the SEC couldn’t find jobs that suit their previous jobs or their qualifications didn’t meet the SEC requirements.
Another 200 employees, who also fall in the same category have been asked to take a decision whether to return to work or go for voluntary retirement.
The source said the SEC will provide all support to those who have returned to work to utilise their long experience in the education sector.
