Srinagar: Five people — two guerrillas, two policemen and a soldier — were killed in a overnight gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district that finally ended yesterday, a police official said.
Three security men and a woman were injured.
“Two militants have been killed in the Zunrishi (Chowkibal) gunfight that started Monday evening and ended yesterday afternoon,” a senior police officer said. Both were from the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group.
“One junior commissioned officer, and two police constables have also been killed in the operation,” he said.
Three security men and a local woman were injured during the operation, he said, adding the woman suffered a bullet injury in her leg and doctors said she is out of danger.
A joint team of security forces, including the army, the special operations group of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday surrounded a house in Zunrishi village of Kupwara, 130km from here, Monday following intelligence reports that a group of guerrillas was hiding in it.
E-visa for tourists from 180 countries
New Delhi: The government will soon operationalise electronic travel authorization or e-Visa facility to inbound tourists from 180 countries.
According to Tourism Secreatry Parvez Dewan, the government will operationalise the electronic travel authorisation within a year.
Dewan was speaking at the inauguration of the first edition of Incredible India Travel Bazaar (IITB), organised by Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in partnership of with the tourism ministry.
Dewan also said that during the past year India has considerably relaxed its visa regime and expanded the Visa-on-Arrival (VoA) scheme to include many countries.
FICCI said that its mega event has drawn 247 foreign tour operators as buyers of the Indian tourism product.
“They (foreign tour operators) will engage in business-to-business meetings with 246 Indian sellers in 9,000 structured pre-fixed meetings over two days,” FICCI body said in a statement.
