DOHA: Ebtisam Al Saffar has opened her solo exhibition entitled ‘A Woman’s Look’ at Qela Boutique Gallery at The Pearl Qatar.
Al Saffar is a female artist who is both Arab and Qatari, but whose oeuvre speaks purely and simply as art, a universally comprehensible language.
The women she depicts in her paintings gaze out of her canvases from distinguished, delicately modelled faces in which strength of line is balanced by gentle volume and colour.
Her pieces stand out in any shared exhibition space as utterly unique within the context of the Qatari and Gulf art scenes. While most of the subjects that Ebtisam chooses to paint are women, and she concentrates especially on faces, all her work is charged with the same acute personal awareness of her surroundings and of her own manner of representing what she sees and lives.
During her education and research as an artist, Ebtisam paid particular attention to works by Pablo Picasso and Amedeo Modigliani, which remain her favourite influences and reflected in her paintings.
