Tokyo: Two earthquakes hit southern Japan on Tuesday without triggering the tsunami alert.
The first quake measured 6.4 magnitude on the Richter Scale. It occurred with a 10-kilometer deep epicenter and located about 250 kilometers south off the coast of Naha, capital of Okinawa Prefecture, according to Japan Meteorological Agency.
The earthquake reached level 3 of the Japanese seismic scale of 7, in the affected city of Miyakojima, located about 150 kilometers from the epicenter, with about 56,000 inhabitants.
A second temblor measured 5 on the Richter scale struck the same area and at the same depth.
No casualties or injuries from either quake have been reported.
Japan is situated on the so-called ring of fire, one of the world's most active seismic zones.
