Doha: The Katara Oud Centre, located at the Cultural Village Building No. 6, was formally opened yesterday.

The opening ceremony was attended by Katara General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Dr. Muhammad bin Saleh Al Sada, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the College of the North Atlantic, and H E Khalid bin Ahmed Obaidan, member of the Shura Council.

The event was also attended by a number of Their Excellencies, ambassadors, and the public.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Al Sulaiti said: “The Katara Oud Centre is the latest cultural project adopted by Katara in its constant endeavor to find platforms for art and creativity and bridges for communication between cultures, as music has a great role in building these bridges, and the oud instrument has a special place in Arabic music.”

He indicated that the pioneering and successful experience of Katara through its launch in previous years of the Katara Festival for the Oud, which brought together the best musicians and makers of the oud in the world, contributed to the establishment of the centre, which aims to preserve the musical heritage and support this ancient instrument that extends its roots in the East.

More than the preservation of the ancient artistic heritage, the centre brings together a group of the most skilled musicians and composers and attracts lovers of original art.
